Meet the artist

Hi, I’m Hannah.

Artist & owner of Juniper Row Pottery

I’m a former office worker turned full-time potter. Every piece in the shop is made by me, start to finish, in a converted garage studio behind our house in Asheville.

Our story

The story behind Juniper Row

Hands wedging a fresh block of clay on a worktable
Wedging clay, most mornings before 7am.

01 How it started

It started with one lopsided mug.

Ten years ago I signed up for a Tuesday-night pottery class to get away from my laptop, and I walked out with the ugliest mug you’ve ever seen. I still drink my coffee from it every day.

I kept going back: once a week, then every spare evening, then every weekend. In 2019 my husband and I cleared out our garage on Juniper Row, bought a second-hand kiln from a retiring potter, and I opened the online shop. The first order came from a stranger in Oregon. I cried a little.

02 Where & how it’s made

By hand, in a garage studio in Asheville

No factories and no production partners. Everything is made in small batches, about twenty steps from my back door.

  1. Wedge. Local North Carolina stoneware clay is kneaded by hand to push out air bubbles.
  2. Throw. Each piece is shaped on the wheel, so no two are exactly alike.
  3. Trim & glaze. Pieces are trimmed, dried for a week, then dipped in glazes I mix myself.
  4. Fire. Two kiln firings make every piece dishwasher- and microwave-safe.

03 What makes it special

Three things I won’t compromise on

Made to be used

Pottery belongs on the breakfast table, not behind glass. Everything is built for daily life.

Honest materials

Regional clay, lead-free glazes, and plastic-free packaging made from recycled paper.

A real person

Questions, custom orders, a chipped mug? You’ll always hear back from me, not a help desk.
